Autumn Tansey – 1.5 Degrees – Guest Curator

Our assistant curator Autumn Tansey comes from a background as a practicing artist who has recently begun to develop her experience and skills in curating.
Motivated by social, political and environmental concerns, Autumn’s art practice has always centralised around environmental themes, looking at the social and political dynamics that play upon our relationship to the environment, and the impact that the changing landscapes are having. Her processes aim to invite the viewer to have an experience with the artwork, and invite them to contemplate their own relationship to the issue. It is from this foundation that she has worked, in curating the 1.5 Degrees exhibition.
Autumn is a conceptual Artist with a background in lens based media , performance and installation. Since completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Photomedia) at Monash University in 2010 she has exhibited extensively across Melbourne in numerous exhibitions and events. Highlights include The National gallery of Victoria’s project space – NGV Studio, Kings ARI, Gertrude Street projection festival, Yarra Sculpture Gallery, Obscura Gallery, Alliance Francaise Gallery, Trocadero Artspace, Monash faculty Gallery and Without Pier Gallery.
Autumn has also been the recipient of various awards, residencies and programs including a residency in Prato, Italy, participation in the Rudder mentor program funded by The Australia Council, Receiving the Kayell Australia Excellence in Photo media award, receiving the 2010 Alliance Francaise prize for Monash University graduates, a finalist in ‘Uncover’ at Perth Centre for Photography and a nomination for ‘Hatched 2011’ at PICA.
Autumn is currently an administrator at the iconic Melbourne Street Art hub of The Blender Studios, her role involves a broad range of tasks across the various projects that run through the studios. This has included supporting the exhibition program at Dark Horse Experiment (the affiliated Gallery Space), and assisting in the ongoing curatorial programming.
