Artist statement

I am an artist who primarily uses textiles. I print and stitch imagery and words onto vintage handkerchiefs, doilies, baby clothing and napkins to tell the story of my childhood and the effect it has had on me and my mental health. I also trap items in wax. The main theme is one of confinement, largely due to my father being in prison for various crimes, including violent ones, from the time I was born until his death at just 50 years old. I also focus on my grandmother's battle with Alzheimer's disease, which in itself is another form of confinement.

I make my work not only to communicate with it's viewers, but also as a form of catharsis for myself. For many years I have struggled with difficult thoughts and memories and my work has been a form of therapy for me to process these. I hope to reach bother people who have suffered with aversity in their childhoods as well as those who have not.

I have only begun to make my work again this year after a few years of abstinence, so I am open to all sorts of project and exhibition opportunities, solo and group.
