Artist statement

My emerging art career commenced post retirement as I was able to indulge in Contemporary Art studies at university. I specialise in the highly complex and time consuming process of pate de verre -an ancient glass process(I want it all-Greed1, Doily, Quill Pen2) that utilises powdered glass and kiln casting(Unchained). As a hunter and scavenger many of my works incorporate found object (Catch of the Day3, Sootie4) therefore reducing my ‘environmental footstep'.

An awareness and fight for social, economic, environmental and political change is the motivating force behind the production of provocative bodies of work.

I use visual appeal to entice the viewer then the true message is delivered on a closer examination.

My work often has a whimsical aspect as I enjoy Salvidor Dali mantra suggesting art should have a “wicked sense of humour and desire to baffle the public completely”.

My ambition is to extend my skills in the production of glass while incorporating a wider range of mediums into my work. The ultimate dream would be a solo exhibition as I tend to make a body of work consisting of many objects.

1Pate de verre – extremely thin glass
2Fine detail can be achieved with the sugar like end product often the result of pate de verre
31000's of one use plastic jewels were found on the pavement near a storm water drain
