I chose to firstly hand paint the provided piece of reclaimed vintage linen, then embroider and bead to add texture and detail. The subject of the work, Red-finned Blue-eyed fish came about after reading the plight of this freshwater fish on the brink of extinction. This tiny fish lives in small inhospitable springs in Outback Queensland, Australia and is now making a recovery with the construction of man-made springs.

Nature has long provided Elizabeth Haigh with inspiration. Her artwork evolves from what she sees within her surroundings; the colours, textures, cast shadows inform the lines and shapes in her artwork. Recent work shares her experiences and concerns for the natural world. Initially trained as a painter and sculptor, Elizabeth’s love of textiles sees this media merge into her practice.
