Artist statement
I'm a Melbourne artist making art about people, identity and relationships. I draw on my experience as a woman and a mother, and resultantly most of my work is about family, motherhood and gender roles. I am a passionate advocate for women’s issues and gender equality.
I have an interest in pattern and include it in nearly all my work through collaged fabric or paper. I have an extensive collection of fabrics and decorative paper. My attraction to pattern comes from my love of order, but more importantly I like the flat, decorative element it adds. I predominately work in oils but also dabble in paper collage, drawing and printing.
In 2012 I held my first solo show and have been averaging one roughly every two years. My last solo exhibition titled 'I am' was exhibited in November 2018 at Tacit Gallery, Collingwood. I have been shortlisted for a number of prestigious awards, including the Marie Ellis Drawing Prize (2019), Lethbridge 10,000 (2018, 2014, 2013, 2012), Hornsby Art Prize (2015), Agendo (2013) and the Metro Art Prize (2011).
