Artist statement

I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area but currently reside in the Valencia region of Spain. I work in a variety of mediums but am most serious about my work in collage and watercolor. I use my memories to paint and collage images that border between landscape and abstract expressionism. I want my work to appear blurry and out of grasp because I am relating a world based on memory and emotion which therefore lacks the clarity in realism. I often start with a drop of paint and follow my feelings which lead me to other colors and forms. I also enjoy drawing and sketching from direct observation which you can view on my instagram.

My most current series is based on the wildfires in California. Wildfires form part of the natural life cycle of forests. They are beautiful in a sense but also destructive. I express the intensity of loss contrasted with the stunning red and yellow hues that color the sky during fire season. Climate change poses a real threat to ecosystems I always believed were permanent. As it touches my native California I feel the need to express my tremendous feelings of confusion and heartbreak. I am interested in exhibits and collaborations.
