Artist statement

I'm a Dutch fine art photographer, based in a small village in the middle of a national park. I make abstract aesthetic work focused on light, colour and patterns. I work almost exclusively with water because of it's power of transformation and illumination.

My water photos reflect the way I feel. So I can see when it's busy in my head, when I'm out of balance, when I struggle, when I'm trying to escape my daily life. They're like repeating themes. They don't reflect the real world but transform it to another imaginary place. Every time I stare into water I get enchanted. It's my flight in another world that triggers my own imagination. Water is an inexhaustible source of inspiration and fascination. Always in motion, every moment different. Current, season, density, sun, time and wind cause a continuous change of the image that I am trying to capture. If I am in the right place at the right time, it is magical. As if a gate opens to another temporary world. New patterns, images and beings that come to existence by the grace of that moment. Through water I found my own way of looking at the world.

Most of my singular photos are not edited. The colours and the patterns are like I found them in nature. It's also my way of showing what a beautiful variation water has to offer. I do mirror a part of my reflection photos. The patterns that emerge, are irresistible and bring a lovely harmony which in return bring balance.

I love abstract work, because it rings a bell or it doesn't. You don't have to see what I've photographed. Most of the time you can't even tell that it is water. Just tell me if it appeals to you or not, how does it make you feel?

I'm open to all kind of exhibition or project opportunities.
