Darren Doye’s paintings can be viewed as a commentry on the preservation and constant evolution of Australian culture. Through the using of iconic historical and architectural references Darren's work evokes questions relating to what it means to be an Australian? How the city relates to the country and vice versa? He invites the viewer on a journey of recognisable landmarks encouraging them to read and personalise the narrative to evoke feelings of nostalgia. The icons which are created using a woodcut printing technique are often placed within rural landscapes, which pay homage to the Artists’ country roots. Darren's work is represented in numerous public and private collections both in Australia and around the world.
