Artist statement

My work is primarily concerned with architecture and landscape; where the built environment and nature coexist. Intimate in scale, I paint portraits of place.

I have a longstanding interest in architectural form and representing ideas around place. My travels further cemented that interest influenced by the striking range of domestic architecture and rich colour palette these unfamiliar places presented.

My working process starts with photographic documentation which is transposed in paint and reconfigured on to small wooden panels. While the works are unframed – so their edges are visible, making a distinct reference to painting – their intimate scale and subject matter invite the viewer further into the frame to engage in the place.
