Art level career
My art explores the connections between humans and the natural world. I have a background in science (PhD, 1990) which influences my approach to art-making, but despite a technical authenticity to some of the work, my most successful art evokes a sense of wonder and curiosity, juxtaposing science with spirituality, revealing the sometimes hidden beauty of nature.
My main focus is painting and drawing, and I like to combine realism with abstraction to build up my images. Over the past few years the topics I have addressed include climate change and the environment, and specific issues such as the mechanism and implications of accelerated evolution, symbiosis and the awesomeness of our forests and oceans.
In 2019 I was invited to contribute to an art-science exhibition in Venice called “Equilibrium” and met some amazing international artists. The show brought attention to climate change and my art was featured on ABC news and a various media, and has had flow-on effects with further collaborative projects. My art has also been used on record and magazine covers. I am keen to get involved with a range of new group/solo exhibitions, and to collaborate with writing and art projects that explore the depths of our existence and our connections with nature.
