Artist statement

My practice, through the process of Cyanotype, serves as a recording of local and national flora and plant species, both native and introduced. This beautiful 18th century medium allows for the direct transfer of plant imagery in it's freshly found state. My practice is informed and inspired according to the landscape l am working within and the plant material found there. The Cyanotype process harnesses natures’ natural energy, the sun, to capture the marks, shadows, silhouettes, and outlines of flora and plant species. The bold contours and receding shadows are an observation of how we interact with our surroundings and the impact we have. It reflects upon the fragility of nature and the delicate balance between humanity and the environment.
