A labyrinth, as distinct from a maze, has only one path, and is a very ancient design. In mediaeval use, walking a labyrinth was a practice to aid contemplation and calm the mind. The design here is similar to that of the labyrinth in Chartres Cathedral in France (13th century), though the Chartres labyrinth has more turns.

“Labyrinth for Lockdown” consists of a little over 2,000 buttons and 16 non-buttons (not counting the central cross-like shapes, which are distorted buttons). The non-buttons are all from my house; the work was made during the period of lockdown imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
